Canada’s aging timber infrastructure, municipal bridges, community arenas, recreation centres, heritage structures, often needs more than repair. It needs reinforcement that restores and exceeds original capacity, using technology engineered specifically for timber. TRS deploys proprietary systems that no other Canadian contractor can offer.
Municipal timber bridges
Aging timber bridges across Canadian municipalities, particularly in Ontario, BC, and the Maritime provinces, frequently present shear and bending deficiencies that visual inspection underestimates. Decay detection testing identifies the true extent of deterioration, and Retroshear® panels restore capacity without requiring full replacement.
Arena & recreation centre roof systems
Canada’s timber-framed arenas and recreation centres are a national infrastructure asset. Many were built in the 1950s–1970s with glulam roof systems now showing delamination and shear deficiency. TRS’s Retroshear® system restores these to original capacity, avoiding the cost and community disruption of full structural replacement.
Heritage timber structures
Heritage-designated structures under provincial and federal frameworks often cannot simply be replaced. TRS reinforcement technology lets engineers restore structural capacity to heritage elements while meeting heritage-body requirements for material authenticity and visual character.
First Nations community infrastructure
TRS has completed reinforcement projects for First Nations community buildings in Canada. Our team understands the specific consultation and procurement requirements of First Nations-owned infrastructure projects.
Manufactured in Canada
TRS manufactures at its own ISO 9001-certified facilities in Cranbrook, British Columbia and Hillsborough, New Brunswick, operating since 2015. Structures for Canadian projects are manufactured in Canada, from advanced fibre-reinforced engineered wood products to pre-machined, pre-assembled bridges and buildings.

Glulam rafter reinforcement
WRD assessed a delaminated glulam rafter system. A Level II inspection revealed manufacturing defects causing delamination across multiple rafter elements. A two-man TRS crew installed Retroshear® shear panels to restore full structural capacity, giving the roof system many more years of service life.

Decay Detection Testing
Decay detection testing identified internal pile decay that a standard visual inspection would have missed. The diagnostic data changed the engineering specification, preventing an under-specified repair that would have required far more expensive intervention within years.

Our Canadian work is designed to CSA S6 (the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code) and CSA O86 for wood, within the NBCC, documented for provincial Ministries of Transportation, DFO, and municipal public-works departments, with Indigenous consultation built into the process, particularly in BC. TRS manufactures in Canada at its own ISO 9001-certified facilities in Cranbrook, British Columbia and Hillsborough, New Brunswick (operating since 2015), so Canadian projects are manufactured in Canada.
