Australia’s timber infrastructure asset base, council bridges, heritage buildings, fire towers, community halls, is aging. The question for every asset manager is: repair, reinforce, or replace? Council timber bridges
Aging council bridge stock across NSW, QLD, and beyond often hides shear and bending deficiencies that visual inspection underestimates. Decay detection testing maps the true condition, and Retroshear® panels restore capacity without full replacement.
Heritage buildings & fire towers
Heritage-listed timber structures, including the state’s iconic timber fire towers, often can’t be replaced. Decay detection testing and TRS reinforcement restore structural capacity while preserving heritage-listed material and character.
Community halls & glulam systems
Community buildings and halls with ageing glulam roof systems showing delamination are strong Retroshear® candidates, restoring shear capacity with minimal crew and minimal disruption, at a fraction of replacement cost.
Decay Detection Testing
Standard Level II inspections rely on visual assessment and resistance drilling. Decay detection testing maps internal decay, delamination, and moisture damage, so repair specs are accurate and replace/reinforce decisions are evidence-based, not gut-feel.

Waaje Fire Tower No. 4
Client: Queensland Dept. of Housing & Public Works
A heritage-listed 30-metre timber fire tower. Decay detection testing assessed the condition of the tower’s four ironbark columns and cross-bracing. Repairs and reinforcement were specified from the diagnostic data, preserving the Queensland Heritage Register-listed structure and extending its service life.
South Arm Bridge
Client: Byron Shire Council
Decay detection testing informed the repair specification for this 63-metre bridge upgrade. Treatment technology, Copper Naphthenate, Anchorseal®, and Decaystop® borate rods, was applied systematically based on the diagnostic findings.

Our Australian work is engineered to AS5100 bridge design (with SM1600 loading, or T44 where specified) and AS/NZS 1720 for timber, by RPEQ- and CPEng-qualified engineers, delivered for council procurement and state departments including TMR, DPI, and DAF, with cultural inductions and environmental permitting handled as standard.
