Matlacha Bridge

TRS crew working on the Matlacha Park BridgeInspection & retrofit

Located at the entrance to Matlacha Community Park in Ft. Meyers, Florida the bridge is a single span timber structure with tight packed rectangular girders supported by timber headstocks on timber piles. WRD was commissioned by Lee County Florida Department of Transportation to conduct an inspection to evaluate the condition of the structure. It was determined that Abutment 1 was decayed and in very poor condition therefore the safety of the bridge was compromised.

The bridge deck and rails were lifted via crane and set on the road at Abutment 2. The TRS crews cut the piles off at Abutment 1 and added a new double cap on top of the cut off pile stubs. The bridge was lifted by crane back into place and re-attached at the abutments. The bridge is in a tidal zone so the work had to be scheduled around the tidal fluctuations.
